About the interviewee: “My name is Richelle Bellegarde, I am Assiniboine and Plains Cree, from Little Black Bear First Nation, located in Southern Saskatchewan Treaty Four Territory. I am attending UBC for my Bachelor of Arts majoring in English and I am a mentor for the Indigenous Programs Services. I chose an Eagle tip fan to represent cultural safety because Eagles are sacred animals that fly closest to the Creator. I dance jingle, a women’s healing dance and we use this fan to represent an Eagle’s spirit. Eagle tip fans also represent family and are used in ceremonies to pray.”
