Institutions of higher education represent voices, ideologies, and experiences of students, staff, teachers, researchers, and administrators. These stakeholders contribute actionable items, strategies, pathways for the future that shape institutional practices in research, teaching and learning. For instance, the Strategic Equity and Anti-Racism (StEAR) Framework at UBC offers, “a community-engaged, data-informed, action-oriented and accountability-driven planning tool developed to guide the implementation of equity and anti-racism priorities” (Read more about the StEAR Framework). This framework directs our work in the RESPECT magazine to develop and demonstrate collective work and effort to enhance equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization.
For Issue 7, we invite contributors to respond to ways anti-racism informs higher education, share observation on practices and strategies at our institution, and direct our thought and action towards well-informed anti-racist practices. Some questions to consider are listed below. Use these to begin a thought, an idea, or a response to ways we can break systemic barriers to thrive and grow in this academic community.
- From nurses to sociologists, scientists to artists, what kind of barriers to cultural safety do you see?
- How can post-secondary institutions create more inclusive learning environments that actively dismantle systemic racism?
As always, we welcome textual, audio-visual, and other creative presentation of your work. Review the “Submission Guidelines” and “Submit” your work. If you have any question, email: anita.chaudhuri@ubc.ca.
SUBMISSIONS FOR ISSUE 7 DUE: MONDAY, APRIL 7, 2025.
